About Ella

Ella is a Soprano from Hampshire, England and is currently working at the Wiener Staatsoper as a member of their Chorakademie. Appearances to date at the Staatsoper include, Soloist in the Quartet and Chorus in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail and in the Chorus of Wagner’s Tannhäuser.

Her opera roles studied and performed include, Belinda and 1st Witch in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Galatea in Handel’s Acis and Galatea. Pamina and 1st Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflote, Zaide in Mozart’s Zaide, Cendrillon in Viardot’s Cendrillon and Nella in Puccini’s Gianni Schicci.

As a regular concert and oratorio soloist, Ella has enjoyed performing repertoire including Haydn’s Creation and Nelson Mass, Faure’s Requiem, Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius, Handel’s Messiah and Samson, Bach’s Magnificat and St John Passion, Mozart’s Requiem, Schubert’s Mass in G, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Rutter’s Requiem and Magnificat and more. She also featured in the Shakespeare in Music Festival’s 2025 programme as a soloist.

Ella graduated in 2025 from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire where she was awarded a Distinction in MMus Vocal Performance studying under Sopranos, Amanda Roocroft and Rebecca Bottone. She is also an alum of the University of Chichester Conservatoire and graduated in 2023 with a First Class Degree in a BMus Vocal Performance.

During her time at RBC, Ella competed in competitions including the Edward Brooks Lieder competition and was awarded the second place prize in January 2024 and as a Finalist in the Stuart Cameron Smith Prize for American Song in November 2024. She also appeared as Cendrillon in Viardot’s Cendrillon in the Conservatoire’s Opera Scenes in November 2024 directed by Lysanne Van Overbeek and conducted by Mark Austin. She was fortunate enough to have been selected to perform in two Masterclasses with Jonathan Sells and Paul Farrington. She was also featured as a soloist in Vaughan- Williams Serenade to Music with the RBC Symphony Orchestra. Ella was selected to spend a week in April 2024 at the Conservatorio di Musica in Padova, Italy where she studied Mozart’s recitative from Le Nozze di Figaro alongside select singers from Conservatoires across Europe.

In 2023-2024, Ella was a member of the Genesis Sixteen programme, a young artists programme run by the The Sixteen Choir and the Genesis Foundation. During this year she performed at multiple venues across the UK and learnt from world renowned conductors Harry Christophers and Eamonn Dougan. She was the Soprano Choral Scholar at Arundel Cathedral (2022-2023) and whilst at RBC sang as a Soprano at the Oratory of St Philip Neri in Birmingham. Throughout her choral singing career, Ella has performed at many prestigious venues such as St Paul’s Cathedral, Chartres Cathedral (France), Chichester Cathedral, Arundel Castle in the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk’s private chapel, Goodwood House, Cowdray House and St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

As well as opera, Ella has trained in Musical Theatre and was a member of the National Youth Music Theatre from 2021-2022. She was a company member in their productions of the UK premiere of The Hunchback of Notre Dame in Manchester Cathedral and Chess, the Musical at the Leicester Curve directed by Alex Sutton and with musical direction from Jordan Li-Smith. Most recently, Ella has played the role of Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music at The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham in August 2024 directed by Pollyann Tanner and under the musical direction of Chris Newton.
